Laguna Blue artists, Dana Shirley and Valerie Thomas, have degrees in graphic arts, engineering, and have studied metalsmithing at the Cleveland Institute of Art. The collective engineering and art experience has helped the artists construct creative pieces that hold up to years of daily wear. Their art jewelry has been evolving for over 15 years.
Starting with sheet and wire, the artists torch sculpt, weave, enamel, forge, chase, fold form and fuse to create unique art jewelry. Exotic freeform gemstones, natural pearls, opals, fossils and genuine sea glass are incorporated into the designs. Many pieces are fused with 18K and 22K gold using an ancient process of heat and pressure.
All chains are hand made link-by-link and can be worn as a statement by themselves or add a pendant.
Argentium® sterling silver has been used in the Laguna Blue studio exclusively since 2005. This exciting, new sterling silver alloy remains 92.5% pure silver and is anti-tarnishing and can be precipitation hardened to twice that of traditional sterling silver. Another major advantage is that people who have an allergic reaction to traditional sterling seldom react to Argentium®.
Laguna Blue art jewelry is worn by women around the world. The artists continuously evolve and develop new processes and designs. Repeat customers say that they wear Laguna Blue jewelry daily and that they never stop getting compliments.
Laguna Blue is an honorary member of the Argentium Sterling Silver guild and has recently been invited to exhibit in the International Gallery for Argentium® Sterling Silver in Middlesex, England- hosted by Peter Johns (Middlesex University), the founder of Argentium®. The artists have consulted with Peter to gain information and skills required to work with this new and exciting alloy. The process that the artists developed to enamel on Argentium has been published internationally.
Laguna Blue has many 'Best of Show' awards and other awards of excellence. The artists have also been interviewed on TV. All Laguna Blue art jewelry is one-of-a-kind and made by Dana Shirley and Valerie Thomas.
